Ranchi is the capital city of the recently formed Jharkhand state in India. It is one of the selected cities in the country, privileged enough to seek assistance under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) which aims at creating economically productive, efficient, equitable and responsive cities.

The study focused on the development of economic, social & physical infrastructure thus ensuring improvement in urban governance accountability, transparency and service delivery. It also aims at eliminating the legal and other bottlenecks by bringing in institutional and financial reforms along with the strategies dealing specifically with the issues affecting the urban poor.
